Amazon EMR 7.3.0: October 15 Standard Support Deadline and Migration Checklist
Teams running data pipelines need to monitor infrastructure release lifecycles. Support dates are a reason to review production dependencies and prepare a change that can be tested.
Calendar milestone: October 15, 2026. SWY publication: October 15, 2026. This is a reminder of an existing AWS documentation schedule, not a new release announcement today. The document provides no cutoff hour or timezone.
The official EMR 7.3.0 schedule
AWS lists initial release on October 16, 2024, standard support through October 15, 2026, end of support on October 16, 2026, and end of life on October 16, 2027. These support milestones are distinct.
Start with actual running workloads
SWY analysis: record active cluster release labels, workload owners, data sources, schedules and downstream consumers. A release warning does not mean every system uses that version. Match the notice against the actual account inventory before assigning migration work.
A migration testing checklist
- Select a target using its support documentation and application requirements at implementation time rather than choosing the largest version number.
- Copy necessary configuration into a separate environment without exposing production credentials.
- Use approved sample data to compare row counts, aggregates, schemas and processing time.
- Test storage connections, permissions, library dependencies, schedules and failed-job handling.
- Assign a cutover decision owner and a recovery path before replacing routine processes.
Review the business reports too
A job completing without an error does not prove its output is correct. Ask report owners to compare results affecting operations, such as transaction summaries or catalog synchronization. Record discrepancies and acceptance criteria so handover depends on useful outcomes rather than cluster status alone.
Document trial costs, execution time and change boundaries. Stop a migration when discrepancies remain unexplained. This guide does not claim that your cluster automatically stops today, and it is not evidence that SWY has tested your AWS environment.
Discuss an application and infrastructure review with SWY.
